An Araw in Surigao

Maajaw karajaw, Surigao! It’s the first thing you can hear from the locals which means “good day!” I surprised my dear friends Xyrus and Honey on their wedding day in Surigao City, and I was successful in my goal; they were shocked when they heard my voice asking around if I know where Xyrus Alavazo lives. To begin retelling my journey to Surigao, let me start by sharing with you my catastrophic Cokaliong ferry trip. The ferry left at exactly 7pm, and I arrived at the pier (traffic is just worst during Friday nights in Cebu) at 7:09pm. As what … Continue reading An Araw in Surigao

Sunny White Sands Resort

My daughter and I surprisingly decided to go to the beach. If you have been reading my previous posts, you know that I am a beach bum; the B.E.A.C.H. simply means Best Escape Anyone Can Have. Sadly, due to my day job, I haven’t been to the beach lately. The last time I went for a swim and for a tan was when I was in #Miami (#Southbeach). After a few minutes of discussion, we chose a local  three-star resort hotel in Mactan, Cebu Whitesands Resorts. We took the company of one of friends, Charry, to enjoy the pool, the beach, the sun, and the food.

For a decade now, I have been to different islands and resorts here in the province of Cebu. Some are mediocre; a few are substandard; and there are really sophisticated ones that you just can’t resist. Blogging for me is my way to giving a heads up to people who haven’t been to where I’ve been to help them have a better experience as I had. Below are my happy thoughts in this resort:

  1. Sanitation – cleanliness is something that any parent is very particular with and out of 5 as the highest rating, I am giving this resort a 4.5. The pool guys were removing some leaves every 30 minutes. There were trash bins every almost 10 meters. We weren’t busy snapping some bugs.
  2. Customer Service – friendly and accommodating staff; they indulged in personable approach. From the security personnel all the way to their aqua sports staff.
  3. Prices – the day-use is Php950/pax with the inclusions of the use of pool and the beach and a lunch buffet on the weekends. If you want to stay for a night, the rooms range from Php 4k-10k; their family room is at Php 10k.

If there was something that I wasn’t mesmerized with, it should be the food. There were only four main courses and one was lamb (and we both don’t eat one). Most of the buffet stations in beach resorts offer a wide variety of dishes, and we are talking about eight or more for the main courses and about six or seven for the desserts. The place is 1/4 of the total area of JPark Hotel and Crimson Hotel, just to give you a picture of how cozy it is.
